Writings of Cho Seung-Hui released

It seems news sources have got a hold of the violent writings of Cho Seung-Hui, the Virginia Tech shooter. Copies can be seen here and here.

I couldn’t read through all of it, but it’s definitely filled with rage. It’s also not that great of writing. Still, I think it gives us a look into the mind of a killer. We’ll probably never completely understand, either.

This was a tragedy for all involved, and I do sincerely believe that these school shootings have common factors, and possibly could have been prevented. Some blame the parents and outside media sources, but It’s obvious this student was under a lot of stress and needed some serious intervention. Nothing can excuse these horrible acts, but nothing is more important than learning from the mistakes made by all.

Save yourself the frustration..don’t buy crappy knockoffs

Random thought of the day. It’s come to my thought how many times I’ve seen people try to save money by buying a knockoff brand of an electronic(notably DVD Players), only to plug it in and find it doesn’t work in many ways. They might just forget about it and accept the loss, take it back and complain, or at worst take it back and say nothing, in which the store(if they have bad stock keeping) will sell it to another unsuspecting victim.

In case you didn’t know, these products come from extremely cheap labour sources, mainly China, and aren’t exactly the epitome of quality.

Anyway, I guess my point is, while it may seem like a good idea at first, save youself the stress and elevated blood-pressure and buy the better quality product. Again, the old adage applies, you get what you pay for.

Don’t trust an app? Sandbox it.

I came across an extremely useful piece of software, which has most likely saved me hours of frustration. Sandboxie , is an application which allows you to run software you otherwise might be afraid to let loose on your computer. Technically, it seperates the read/write operations done to your system in a virtual machine called a sandbox.

You could also run your browser/email client in the sandbox, as this acts as an excellent preventative measure against unpatched exploits from harming your PC. The best part about all this is it is quite simple for any user to use, from launching a program from the Sandboxie control, or even right clicking on an exe and selecting ‘Run Sandboxed’.

Keep in mind that this won’t 100% protect your computer from malware, but it is an excellent supplement. Always have anti-virus/firewall software installed aswell. Also, if you are looking for a completely comprehensive but more advanced ’sandbox’ solution, you should take a look at VMWare.

If you like the program, support the author!
